Course 03 · Surgical Execution
A 2-Day Live Surgery Mentorship
Learn how to treatment plan and execute SFOT using a phenotype-driven algorithm for the interdisciplinary patient.
November 13–14, 2026 · PMSS Education Center, Glenview, Illinois · $7,500
Seating Limited to 20 Participants
Course Summary
A recent update in periodontal terminology includes a shift from the term "biotype," replacing it with the term "phenotype." There is growing interest and acceptance in developing the dentoalveolar bone complex to expand the orthodontic boundary conditions in perio-ortho therapies.
This course is geared towards learning the technique of phenotype modification therapy via corticotomy surgery, dentoalveolar decortication, and bone morphotype augmentation. The Technique Course is a 2-day surgical mentorship program for clinicians ready to master corticotomy-assisted orthodontic therapy and phenotype modification surgery.
Join us for this unique course and gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to perform complex phenotype modification surgery in your practice.
Educational Objectives
Review key diagnostic findings critical to treatment planning the interdisciplinary patient.
Appreciate dentoalveolar bone phenotypes and the advantage of SFOT.
Present the biology, risks / benefits, and execution of SFOT in advanced interdisciplinary therapy.
Learn how to treatment-plan the IDT patient using the concepts of structure, function, and behavior to drive treatment decisions.
Master the surgical nuances and complexities of phenotype modification surgery (SFOT).
From One Case
Pre-treatment, the simulated outcome of conventional orthodontics alone, and the actual result after SFOT.
Three case images from the November 2026 invitation. The course works through cases like this in detail.
Course Agenda
Friday is treatment-planning, biology, and case presentation. Saturday is two live surgical cases — maxillary and mandibular arch SFOT — performed on-site with attendee participation.
A new treatment-planning mindset for interdisciplinary patient care.
CBCT-based analysis.
With Dr. Ellen Crean.
The how, where, with, and what to augment the phenotype for sustainable results.
Including total joint replacement. Case examples.
Guest presenters: Dr. Michael Feurstein and Dr. Slaton Hoffner, Wisconsin Ambulatory Anesthesia.
Treatment planning & case discussion: how to diagnose and plan SFOT surgery.
Course Director
A two-day surgical mentorship led by the periodontist who wrote the book on SFOT, with guest presenters for digital case planning and medical optimization.
